Title Page

the weird word starting with a G in all these panels is "gondola" and/or "gondolier" in page 5, i had to write really small

since panel 2 is hard to read: I got stuck in a group with the girl who claimed to get drunk from bread, who was flirting with the gondolier the whole time.

hahahaha i guess i forgot to ink the pattern on the bed in the second panel before going over with the eraser hahahaha

Graphic Novel final project for IB LA 12.
The assignment was to create a graphic novel about one event in our lives we found particularly memorable (or could just stand to make a six-page graphic novel about). So long as the story was good, the art didn’t even matter, but I’ve wanted to make something out of this particular event for so long I actually bothered with the art (for most pages).
This happened while I was in Venice, Italy, on a youth group trip with about 44 other teens. My girlfriend of nearly two years had broken up with me literally 10 days before the trip, which, needless to say, ruined the entire experience for me. However, it allowed me to live my life like a romantic comedy for two weeks. Unintentionally, of course.

There are also a couple similar events from this trip I’ll be uploading in the form of 4-panel comics over the next week or two, as well as a little conclusion to the story.

It’d take me a few years to finish all these characters on my own, and I might not even be starting on them for quite a while, so help would be greatly appreciated!

Finished the Robot from Laputa, Castle in the Sky. Since the robots aren’t really given a name, he’s just called Robot. Also he is massive (I made him to scale with the rest of the cast hahahahahahaha) and took like six or seven hours altogether.

Also, Baron Humbert von Jikkingen (from Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns) is the last character. If you’ve never seen it, go watch The Cat Returns. It is absolutely amazing. He’s also another dual-rep, like the Soot Sprites. And the most dapper cat ever to exist. Since the movie scaled Haru down while she was in the Kingdom of Cats, I took the liberty of scaling Baron up for this thing.

And I’m trying to figure out a name for the game. Reply with ideas pls? So far “Miyazaki Mash” is the only idea I’ve come up with.

Replacing Catbus with a sort of conglomerated Soot Sprites character. It’ll be a bunch of Soot Sprites put together, attacking in sort of a blob and chucking things like coal at people. I figured it’d be a fun character and they show up in a lot of Ghibli movies.

Catbus will probably still appear somewhere though.

i think next on my list is Porco Rosso? i’m just going through all the ghibli movies i haven’t seen (or can’t remember much of) first, started off with Princess Mononoke which was pretty good

Might use these for a game someday, might not. Who knows.

Once again all edited out of Coropata sprites (some more heavily than others).

redid mio from a new base (still from coropata) so i could use another char as hakase (also from coropata)

(guess where sakamoto’s base came from)

EDIT: Oh hey full spriteset is up with Mio, Yuuko, Mai, Nano (x4), Hakase and Sakamoto

Some more sprite edits.

Spent about a half hour browsing through tSR until I found some base sprites I liked, then just… edited, I guess.

One day I’ll probably make animations out of these. And probably sooner than that I’ll have bases for more characters (like Yurippe).

Game is called Cherry Tree High Comedy Club (for PC, I guess). Credit for rips goes to Dazz again.

Got bored, Nichijou OP started playing, remembered there was this game with a sprite style that could be really easily edited into Nichijou sprites, proceeded to perform aforementioned editing.

As soon as I started working on it one of Mio’s character songs started playing.

(Original Himawari sprite is from the DS game Coropata, credit to Dazz for ripping the sprites)

another late-nighter

this one took like four hours spread across two nights and about 90% of the time i had no idea what i was doing

chucked my usual style as far out the window as i could for this one; killed the outlines, tried to define stuff with shading, gave no craps about how clean it looked, etc

original was done the same night as the dewott i posted last time, just kinda sat on it for a while
